Warehouse Management System (WMS) is Cin7 Core's user-friendly warehouse management mobile app, where you can direct users to pick, pack, restock, put away, lookup stock and more. Sync information automatically between the application and Cin7 Core to keep stock levels always up to date between your warehouses and your office.
All Cin7 Core plans include Standard WMS features, however, subscribers to Advanced WMS have some additional features to enjoy. Advanced WMS is available for subscribers to Cin7 Cire Pro and Advanced. In this article, learn about what WMS offers for both Standard and Advanced subscribers. Configurable WMS settings
The WMS application has multiple configurable settings which can be customized from within Cin7 Core, not within the application itself. This includes:
- Enforce bin number scanning
- Allow manual quantity entry
- Assign expense accounts for written off stock or goods in transit
- Limit picking to orders scheduled for picking only, and limit number of orders per pick
- Enforce single picker per sale or allow multiple pickers
- Use/ignore tote numbers
- Set pack to manual or automatic
- Set ship authorization to manual or automatic
- Make printing package details mandatory
- Enable time tracking (Advanced WMS only)
- Use picking for kitting (Advanced WMS only)

All Cin7 Core plans include Standard WMS features, however, subscribers to Advanced WMS have some additional features to enjoy. Standard WMS includes a single warehouse location, and lets your users pick and pack orders, print package details, print shipping labels, receive and put away stock, look up stock availability perform stocktake, write-off stock and transfer stock between your organization location as well as between bins in your warehouse location.

Picking and packing is the process of selecting and packaging products in a warehouse. This includes ‘picking’ the right type and number of products from inventory and ‘packing’ them for shipment. Pick and pack is often the most costly and time-consuming process found in a typical warehouse.
WMS allows your users to pick items while syncing stock levels to Cin7 Core. Multiple orders can be picked at once. Picking will be based on the guided walk path feature that is programmed into the application to make picking more efficient. Bin locations on the pick list are suggested in alphanumerical order. Advanced WMS users can also add pick zones to further streamline picking.
WMS allows you to customize your picking process with optional settings, such as:
- Enforcing a single picker per sale or allowing multiple pickers to work on the same order
- Use or ignore tote numbers when picking
- Make bin number scanning optional or mandatory
- Allow manual quantity entry
- Allow all authorized sales to be picked, or limit picking to orders scheduled for picking only.
Packing is the process of packing the picked products for each customer order. It ensures products are packed correctly and efficiently for shipping. If necessary, products from the same order can be packed in separate boxes or delivered using multiple carriers. Packing in WMS can be set to manual (your users manually add picked items to boxes) or automatic (pack is authorized automatically when pick is authorized. Multiple packages can be packed at once.
Additionally, with a connected printer, WMS allows users to print package details for information and print shipping service labels.

Receiving inventory into the warehouse, checking the quantity/quality/condition of incoming goods and storing items in the right location (bins) allows you to keep track of the quantity in stock and maximise the warehouse space.
With WMS, you have the option to receive inventory with or without a purchase order or change the location of items between different bin in the warehouse.

Using the put away feature, you can move received stock to a bin if the stock does not have an assigned bin yet. All stock in your current warehouse location which has not been put away in a bin will be displayed in this section.

WMS allows the user to restock items from sales that have been fulfilled and returned. This will save restock information live while physically restocking the items in the warehouse locations/bins, keeping your inventory levels in sync across your entire platform.

The stocktake feature allows the user to verify the quantities and the condition of the stock physically your warehouse, finding discrepancies and increasing your stocktaking efficiency and accuracy. Select any open stocktake to start scanning items and recording quantities.

WMS stock lookup feature allows users to see availability (SOH, available, allocated and on order quantities) of items in stock and see which items are stocked in a specific location/bin. This feature will not work when WMS is in offline mode. Choose to display all items in a location (showing bins and quantities per bins), display all items in a specific bin, or display all units of one item across bins and locations.

The stock transfer feature allows you to move stock between locations in your organization or between bins in a location. You can initiate new transfers from the app itself, or pick stock to complete existing stock transfers that were created via Cin7 Core web portal, POS, or MES, and stock transfers between other locations, if the transfers are in Ordered status. Stock transfers can be filtered by status or searched by transfer order number.
With WMS, pick efficiently for each type of transfer:
- Pick according to sale order
- Pick all items transferred from a single location
- Pick all item transferred to a single location
- Two step transfers using a staging bin
- Transfer between bins in the warehouse location

An inventory write-off is an accounting transaction that recognizes the reduction in the value of inventory due to loss, damage, obsolescence, or any other reason that makes it unlikely that the inventory will be sold or used in the future. Stock can be written off directly from the WMS app by scanning the item and selecting the quantity.

Product labels can be printed directly from the WMS mobile app using this feature, which can be accessed from the main menu. You must connect a supported printer to print product labels (or any labels).

All subscribers to Advanced WMS get all the Standard WMS features listed above, and some additional features to enjoy! Advanced WMS is required to manage multiple warehouse locations with the WMS app. With Advanced WMS, use pick zones to streamline your picking, recommend (or enforce) different items if what you have picked is not the first expired/first in, schedule deliveries, track user time spent picking and packing, and pick for kitting where the assembly is completed during the pick process.
Zone picking is a method of order picking that involves dividing a warehouse into a series of different zones with each warehouse employee trained to pick within an assigned zone. An order may be moved down a conveying system from zone to zone to have items added. Assign products to pick zones via Cin7 Core web portal, when using the app, you will be given the option to select pick zone during picking.

Picking order recommendation (FEFO/FIFO)
By default, WMS allows pickers to scan and select any batch/serial number while picking stock. While auto-pick actions choose stock in line with FIFO/FEFO costing methods, there is no check or validation performed to make sure that the item picked is the oldest/first to expire.
Advanced WMS users can use extra settings and validation to check that picked items are in line with FEFO/FIFO rules before authorizing a pick. This applies to picking for all transactions which result in stock movements, i.e. sales, assembly, stock transfers. When an item is picked that is not the first in/first expired, the user can either receive a warning (but can still continue) or the picking order is enforced.

Delivery tasks created either via POS or via the Cin7 Core web portal will be passed to the WMS application for delivery drivers. With WMS, delivery drivers can view delivery tasks assigned to them, mark deliveries as complete, and record confirmation of delivery for organization records.
Time tracking is used to measure worker efficiency. Picking and packing are important warehouse tasks. With this feature, organizations can enable time tracking for warehouse workers and use the data to analyze worker performance and identify issues slowing down warehouse workflows. Time tracking for picking and packing is one of the configurable settings in WMS, but is enabled/disabled via Cin7 Core web portal, not the application itself.
Time tracking is stopped whenever the session is interrupted. The user will be able to restore the session at the next log in. User can pause the session and return to the session later.Time tracking data can be analysed by using the Warehouse Details Report.

Picking for kitting
For some products, multiple items should be assembled into kits to be sold as one whole, e.g. gift boxes. Assembly of these products is simple enough to be done on the fly during a pick if no assembled items are available. When this setting is enabled, WMS users can pick components and then complete the assembly during the picking process. Assembly orders created from this process are carried out automatically by the system, and components, labour and overhead costs, and wastage quantities cannot be edited.
