Directed pick is a feature for Cin7 Core Warehouse Management System application, allowing you to restrict picking in WMS to specific bins or groups of bins. When directed pick is enabled for a location, you can create bin groups to group bins together, then specify via the WMS application which bin groups should be picked from for each location. This allows you to restrict picking, and some other features, to certain areas while other stock is not used.

Enable directed pick for a location

Directed pick is enabled at the location-level. From Cin7 Core web, go to Settings → Reference Books → Locations and Bins and enable directed pick for the location.

Create bin groups for a location

Next, you can create bin groups to collect your bins together. For example, you might create bin groups for specific areas or levels of your warehouse. A bin group may contain multiple bins, but one bin cannot be in multiple bin groups.

On the Bins tab, create a new bin group with +Bin group.

Give the bin group a name and add bins to the group. A bin group may contain multiple bins, but one bin cannot be in multiple bin groups.

Once a bin group has been created, it can be added to the working area in your WMS application to restrict certain actions to the bins within.

The next step takes place from the WMS application.

Go to Menu → Working area

If bin groups are available for a location, the user will be able to multi-select bin groups in this location for picking. The All option is selected by default.

When picking using WMS, the following changes will be applied:

  • Pick lists are restricted to designated bin groups.
  • Stock availability checks will be restricted to designated bin groups.
  • Recommend batch/serial no. for FIFO/FEFO will be restricted to designated bin groups (Advanced WMS feature)
  • If picking for kitting (Advanced WMS feature) and required components are not available in the selected bin group, an error message will be displayed.
